There is a feeling when you look at the news coverage about a school shooting and they talk about the hallways and classrooms but it is something different when the school is where you earned your degree and have walked down the hallways hundreds of times.
That is what recently happened to me when I heard about the shooting at Northlake College where not only did I attend school I have also maintained professional relationships with much of the staff as well as the fact that the school has people that I am close to attending as students so yes this incident bothers me.
Donald Pleasence in the documentary Terror in the Aisles “Why create fake Terror, when there is so much real Terror in the world?” That is the question that I find myself asking often when I see specials and Documentaries like this here film Tower.
You see I am often asked “What Scares me”? When I was a child people often wondered this very question, primarily because of my love of Halloween and the horror genre. What scared me and kept me up at night was actually the nightly News.
It was these evenings that I would hear of true tales of children being abducted and murdered, Robberies, abuse of authority, so forth.
When I was 10 years old my Family and I took a trip to San Antonio and we passed through Austin and the University and my parents first instinct was to point out The Clock Tower “Where that Sniper was”. Well naturally I am going to look that up.
What I did not know that this incident was the first of it’s kind these days we are just happy when it is just one victim, which is a sad state of our society.
The subject of Tower is the retelling of the shooting in a bizarre animated format. Now the reason for this format is that they are trying to recreate the Austin of the 1960s.This is infact a different style of animation…Think of Scanner Darkley.
Now while the animation style is distracting the story focuses on the victims of that tragic day and make it a point not to mention the name of the shooter or detailing his history like many other documentaries about the clock tower.
This flick was all the rage at SXSW and there is definitely reasons for it I am familiar with much of the works of the crew of this flick and I expect more in the future until then Tower is definitely worth a look and checking out.
