Jaws BluRay

Well it’s finally here. Jaws has finally received the BluRay treatment and it got the works

. Now I love this movie, I used to watch the movie and rewind it and then watch it again as a child. I used to annoy the hell out of my parents and then we would go on Vacation and I would flat out refuse to go swimming because I didn’t want the Shark to get me.

The problem there is we were at a manmade lake and there was no chance in hell that there would be a shark in the water.

That was before I watched the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week and learned about the Bull Shark that can swim in fresh water and despite the fact that it is far smaller than the Great White it is far more vicious.

I actually want to talk about Shark Week which now considered the longest running Cable Television event with 25 years on Cable. That reminds me of how old I am because I remember when Shark Week premiered when I was in the 2^nd Grade and it really sucked. The reason I say that it sucked is because it was a week of all the same programing which was mostly the National Geographic special on the subject and Jaws the True Story which all were available at the local video store.

Well someone at the Discovery Channel agreed with me and now I can’t stop watching it…Actually I DVR it and watch it when I am available. I think that Shark Week improved over the years because of the advances in not only Science, Shark Research, and Technology but also the advances in filmmaking where we get high quality footage of sharks but we get to see Sharks do amazing feats like the infamous Air Jaws footage form the early 2000s.

Shark Week has gained such popularity that I feel that Universal released the BluRay on Shark Week because of the brilliant Marketing as a matter of fact I feel that Jaws’ BluRay was the sponsor of Shark Week because every commercial break after you saw the VW Bug commercial you saw adds for the Jaws BluRay.

Now on to the BluRay

I don’t feel the need to review the movie because I feel that everyone has already seen the flick, what I am here for is to review the special features.

Now for those of us that had Jaws on Laserdisc we have seen the making of Jaws documentary that is featured on the BluRay. There is also a good featurette that follows the restoration and conversion of the feature for the BluRay release and on that note I have to say that the conversion and Restoration is outstanding, The image on the film is crystal clear and you can see things in the background that you could never see before especially in the fact that it is in the anamorphic wide screen ratio.

The restored feature film is clearly the star of this BluRay release but the award for supporting actor goes to the long awaited release of the Shark is Still Working Documentary.

I have been hearing about this documentary for quite a while but it had not received a release yet and now it is released as a special feature on this release of Jaws.

The Shark is Still Working is a in depth documentary of the legacy of Jaws from its inception to the modern day with the fans and the expos as well as trips to Martha’s Vineyard that we all would know as Amity Island doing profiles of the locals who were immortalized as characters in the movie.

The documentary is narrated by Roy Scheider before his death in 2008 and also features interviews with Peter Benchley who also passed away in 2006.

Other interviews featured in the documentary are filmmakers like Kevin Smith and others whose careers were inspired by the film.

This BluRay is definitely a Buy

Batman: Year One

Okay I admit that I am not just a Movie Geek but a Comic Book Geek as well…Okay I am also a Die Hard Gamer as well… okay I am an all-around geek, but I don’t consider that to be a problem because as they say on G4 “It’s a Nerd’s World”.

It is also no secret that I am a huge Batman geek. I admit that I am the man that spent all of my time a couple of weeks ago playing Arkham City which is awesome by the way.

Well one DVD/Blu-Ray that recently came out is Batman: Year One.

I know what you are thinking. Isn’t that Batman Begins? Well, not really.

You see the things about these flicks is simply Warner Premiere releases a line of Direct to DVD flicks in the DC Universe. They are primarily animated movies based on popular comic storylines. Some are flat out taken from the pages and placed on the screen while others are loosely based on the original work.

Now what I like about these are that they not only include the flick but they also are loaded with special features that are a present for many and all DC Comics fans.
These features include special documentaries on not just the story and the making of the flick but in-depth documentaries on the original work detailing the process from inception to the market reaction and the legacy of the work.

Some releases also include biographies on writers and Artists and profiles of the villains as well as the behind the scenes origins of certain characters such as Robin, Supergirl or the Darkseid.

Other features include Animated Shorts that follow smaller characters in the DC Universe. Not to mention selected episodes of Batman: The Animated Series, and Justice League.

These Features alone are worth the purchase of the Disc.
Batman: Year One is no Exception.

The main movie features outstanding animation telling the story of both Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon as they arrive in Gotham City for different reasons.

Wayne is returning to Gotham after traveling the world for thirteen years learning the skills to make him a crime fighter, and coming to Gotham to begin his mission.
Gordon is coming to Gotham to accept a job as a Police Lieutenant for the corrupt GCPD.

The story follows the characters as they narrate their story “Dexter Style” as is in the original Comic.

Other Characters featured in the story are Selena Kyle following her origin to become Catwoman as well as her young protégé Holly.

The flick will keep you entertained if you can forget the fact that you saw the whole story before in Batman Begins.

Now let us get on to the Special Features.

The documentary Heart of vengeance tells the story of how the writers and artists of DC Comics’ journey of taking Batman from his campy 1960’s image to his Dark Roots and the origins of the Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller and his return for Batman: Year One and the direction that the franchise to the Dark Knight Rises.

Other Features include a round table discussion with the heads of Batman at DC discussing the directions of the character and where he is going in the future.
What I mainly want to talk about here is the Catwoman short film that first off is HOT in some parts. Catwoman voiced by Eliza Dushku pursues a criminal across Gotham to uncover the truth behind his smuggling ring.

The short is awesome.

There is very much a Catwoman theme to this release. Could Dark Knight Rises have something to do with it?

Anyway this release is definitely a Buy for all Batman fans.
