V/H/S/2

A year ago I brought you a review of a Found Footage film Called V/H/S. The plot of the film followed a group of youths that with malicious intent break into a house and find many VHS tapes that they play and they are all tales of terror shot with different cameras.

The tales follow a group of amateur porn producers that pick up a succubus, A second honeymoon where a couple is stalked by a killer, a young girl Haunted by ghosts that tells the story to a boyfriend via Webcam, a camping trip gone wrong, and a Halloween night in a haunted house.

V/H/S was a hit and proved that the found footage genre still has some life inside the genre. However as is the case when have a hit a sequel is in inevitable and V/H/S 2 was rushed into production.

Now let me first off point out that I had low hopes for this film but I still gave it a chance because I have pointed out that some of these flicks do get better as the sequels progress.

That being said I did have some disappointments with this flick, which I will get to further in this review. Now let us move on to the plot.

Taking place after the events of V/H/S we are introduced to a private detective that after blackmailing a cheating husband he is hired to locate a missing person that we find out was one of the characters in the original movie. Taking his wife with him the PI goes to a house where they find another set of tapes that was in the process of being converted to digital formats and while the Investigator searches the house his wife plays the tapes.

The first film follows a young man that after suffering an eye injury and his eye has been replaced by a prosthetic that records video. The side effect of the eye is that it allows him to see ghosts and he is contacted by a young woman that has the ability to hear the dead and the ghosts attack the house where our characters reside.

This is a really creepy story and the direction works some of the effects also work as well as the lighting.

The second film is an entire POV story of a young bicyclist that while filming his ride comes upon a zombie outbreak and he himself is turned and the movie follows his pursuit for the flesh of the living.
It is a highly interesting take where we get to see the film from the point of view of a zombie.

The next film follows an Asian documentary film crew doing a documentary about a cult where frightening things begin to occur.

I had trouble following this flick but then again I have always had trouble following Asian horror films. This short is heavy on the subtitles not to mention disturbing but hard to follow.

The final entry to the series follows a group of children who place the camera on their dog’s head and record their activities during a slumber party which quickly becomes an alien abduction by Gray aliens.
This video was eerily similar to the infamous The McPherson Tape which was one of tho original underground viral videos which was remade in 1998 by UPN.

This video was far more violent than its 1998 Counterpart.

V/H/S/2 like many sequels isn't as good as it’s original and I noticed that it had far less stories as well as a wraparound but it is still a good watch and Found Footage fans will be entertained as well as fans of the original.
